Peter Fleischer, Executive Director
Peter Fleischer is the first Executive Director of Empire State Future. He started in this role in February 2008. Empire State Future seeks the economic revitalization of New York’s main streets, town centers and urban areas by advancing the principles of smart growth in land use and development decision-making. Mr. Fleischer holds a BA from Harvard and an MBA from the Yale School of Management. From 2003-2007, Peter was the Senior Vice President at the Empire State Development Corporation’s Governors Island subsidiary. Prior to this, he was a Transportation and Environmental policy advisor to the New York City Mayor’s Office. He also served as Assistant Commissioner for Policy at the NYC Department of Transportation. Prior to his government service, Mr. Fleischer worked in strategic planning and private banking at Shearson Lehman American Express. David Hogenkamp, Project Manager
David (DJ) Hogenkamp is a Project Manager at Empire State Future, focusing on Smart Growth issues throughout New York State. His passion for New York State has driven him throughout the state: he grew up in East Aurora near Buffalo, studied in Schenectady, and worked downstate in Westchester. Now he’s back in the Capital Region, with a Masters in Regional Planning from S.U.N.Y. Albany. David is active in the Capital Region as the Sustainable Communities Chairman for a local young professional group, The Stakeholders Inc. David can be reached at dhogenkamp@empirestatefuture.org.
Evan Lowenstein, Consultant
Evan, based in Rochester, is a co-founder of Empire State Future. His work for ESF includes research and writing, web site management, development, and more. His training includes communications and urban/environmental planning (B.A and Masters respectively, University of Virginia), and his work experience over two decades includes a wide array of community development and environmental protection projects.
