Following two public comment sessions in June, completion of the first phase of a West of Hudson Regional Access study is anticipated by the end of the year, according to officials of Metro-North Railroad.
The study seeks to improve transit services connecting central Orange County to Manhattan and to improve transit access to Stewart International Airport from the Mid-Hudson Valley and New York City.
An article in the Poughkeepsie Journal reports that after public feedback and staff analysis, the study team trimmed the number of project alternatives to 22, which address both the commuter and airport markets and could include: connecting rail service to the airport from Metro-North's Salisbury Mills/Cornwall station on the Port Jervis Line; bus service; and combinations of rail and bus options.
