Two Adirondack area communities are close to completing a joint comprehensive plan that will promote mixed-use residential and commercial development as a way to avoid sprawl and increase walkability.
A committee in the Village of Saranac Lake and the Town of Harrietstown has been working on the joint project since late 2006, and new land use and subdivision regulations will be included in the final product, according to the Adirondack Daily Enterprise. The inter-municipal cooperation is also expected to result in a recommendation for a combined planning board covering the two jurisdictions that's likely to be adopted soon, according to the report.
A draft of the new plan is expected to be presented to the boards of both municipalities in the next two months, after which public hearings will be scheduled on the proposal prior to any official action.
