Capital Region Sees Little Growth in Cities While Continued Suburban Sprawl Stalls Smart Growth

|

The cities of Albany, Schenectady and Troy saw little housing growth in 2007 while the suburban towns surrrounding them -- especially in Saratoga County -- continued growing apace, according to the Capital District Regional Planning Commission.

CDRPC compiled US Census data showing that the three cities combined issued 66 building permits for housing during year, while a single Saratoga County town -- Wilton -- issued 423.

The data clearly underscores the fact that the region's population is continuing it's long-standing movement away from the older cities and toward suburban towns, primarily to the north.
